Allan Mullins here with the last update before we announce the winners in the Rosé Rocks Wine Competition tonight.

I'd like to start off by once again thanking all the wines that entered this first year of the competition. The Rosé Rocks team has been very impressed by the level of entries and the range of wines tasted by the judging panel was remarkable. There is certainly a bright future for rosé wine in South Africa.

Tonight's the night! The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront and we are humming with excitement.

The events of the evening and the announcement of the winning wines will be tweeted live so keep an eye on all the action on our Twitter stream: www.twitter.com/RoseRocksSA

The results will be up on our website after the announcements have been made, and there will be plenty of media coverage, kicking off with the Sunday Times on 4th October 2015 which will feature the results. Various magazines will be featuring the news in their October and November issues and there will be plenty of online coverage as well.

Thank you again for all your entries.

ROSÉ ROCKS!

The range of wines to taste was remarkable and the judging was no easy task, which just goes to show what an amazing wine category Rosé is in South Africa.

Thank you all so much for your entries.

The results will be announced on Wednesday, 30th September 2015 at an awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront.

There is much media interest in the results of the competition so stay tuned to find out where you can look out for the media coverage.

Ignore the wine snobs - rosé is the greatest

Le Rosbif Writes: Forget "serious" wines and opt for the immediate rewards of rosé, advises Anthony Peregrine

If and when I become a proper alcoholic, it won't be the whisky, though that will have contributed. It will be the rosé wine. I am growing infatuated with it. I have become yet more besotted this summer. Last night, with friends, we had a couple of bottles to accompany barbecued lamb. I couldn't have been happier.

This is not easy to admit. I am of a generation in which a man should no more pour something pink into his glass than he should slip a work by Liberace onto the turntable. I remember ordering a glass of rosé in an English bar some time ago. "You want peanuts with that," asked a friend, "or candyfloss?" Today such idiocy has disappeared (except, obviously, wherever men gather) but sneers remain. They come now from wine buffs who are reluctant to admit that rosé wines can be serious wines.

To Be (back) In The Pink

For such a pretty, beautifully hued and generally cheerful-looking wine, rosé in South Africa has had a really strained relationship with consumers over the past decade or so. I’m not pointing fingers or laying blame but I suspect we’d all agree that this is largely due to two reasons: sugar and volume. I sincerely mean no offense to any producer but sugary sweet pink wines and pink wines in big boxes have – in the minds of many – set the tone for rosé consumption in SA.

OBVIOUSLY not exclusively, but it’s a connotation that has been pretty dominant.  Pair that perception with the idea that rosé is for girls, and you’ve essentially shoved your average rosé consumer into a pretty tightly defined box. Today though, I say to you, rejoice! For rosé is riding its own little wave of revolution – and we are all better off for it...
