The range of wines to taste was remarkable and the judging was no easy task, which just goes to show what an amazing wine category Rosé is in South Africa.

Thank you all so much for your entries.

The results will be announced on Wednesday, 30th September 2015 at an awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront.

There is much media interest in the results of the competition so stay tuned to find out where you can look out for the media coverage.

New Categories

I’m delighted to report the entries just keep rolling in, and it's great to see.  Thank you to everyone who has entered so far, keep those entries coming.

After a number of queries on the categories and some very strong lobbying from the Elgin region, we have made the decision to add two new categories. This is to facilitate everyone who wants to enter this competition and didn’t feel that there was a suitable category for their wine to enter.

There will now be five categories; here is the line up:

  1. Dry Rosé  5,0 g/l and lower
  2. Off-dry Rosé  5,1 to 12 g/l
  3. Semi-sweet Rosé  12,1 to 20 g/l
  4. Sweet Rosé  20,1 g/ l and higher
  5. MCC Rosé

For all the wines that have already entered, we're very clear about the category that your wine will be entered into.  If you have any questions or queries on these new categories please make contact with us: email at
info@spill.co.za or telephone 021 671 0751.

In other news, I joined Twitter just three days ago and it’s a whole new world.  I’m @AllanMullinsSA.

Why not take a look at the Twitter account for this competition? There is great content on @RoseRocksSA and don’t forget to check out our NEW website at www.roserocks.co.za.

As I’ve said previously, I really believe that the Rosé Wine category in South Africa has a fantastic future. So be part of the journey and enter this brand new competition, a first for SA.

Until next time, as we all know,
ROSÉ ROCKS!

Entries are streaming in!
Allan Mullins here with an update on Rosé Rocks!, South Africa's newest wine competition.

This is the 3rd email you will have received from me and I hope you are enjoying reading about the progress this wine competition is achieving.

The entries continue to stream in and we'd like to convey our many thanks to you for this.
To those you who haven’t entered yet, make the leap and join us on this innovative journey.

Details on how to enter are on our newly launched website - click here.

There have been a few more queries and we'd like to share the answers with everybody. We love the questions so please keep them coming!

Q: Can I enter my wine even though it's of a higher sugar level?
A: Yes, you can. Wines over 5.1 g/l go into the semi-sweet category.*

Q: Can I enter a box wine?
A: Absolutely! The wines for this competition are being poured out of sight so no problem there.

Q: Does it cost extra to have the wine label judged for the wine label design competition?
A: No it does not. Once your wine is entered into the competition in whichever of the 3 categories, you will automatically be entered into the wine label design competition.

We are rocking it on Twitter (@RoseRocksSA). Come along and have a chat with us!

And in other news... we've just launched the new Rosé Rocks! WEBSITE.
Take a look:  www.roserocks.co.za. Keep checking in as we'll be adding bells and whistles as we go along.

If you have any further queries or questions please don't hesitate to email us or telephone us on 021 671 0751. We mean that.

I really believe the
Rosé wine category has been overlooked in this country and now it's Rosé's time to shine. The growth potential is huge.

Thank you for all the positive feedback. Remember - entries close in 4 weeks time.

Until next time, as we all know,
ROSÉ ROCKS!

Allan Mullins

Your Questions Answered

As Chair of the Rosé Rocks! competition I wanted to give you an update on goings on.

We have had a tremendous response to this new, exciting, and innovative competition. A hearty thanks for the enthusiasm.

There have been a number of relevant queries from different wineries and we’d like to share the answers with everybody.

What Rosé wines can I enter?

Q:  Can we enter a Blanc de Noir?
A:   Yes

Q:  Can we enter a Mourvèdre Rosé?
A:   Yes

Q:  What about a Shiraz Rosé?
A:  Yes

Q:  And a Pinot Noir Rosé?
A:  Yes

So to clarify, this is a Rosé wine competition for wines made in South Africa. Rosé wine, for the purposes of this competition, is a wine which has a pink colour. The shades can go from a pale tinge of soft salmon pink right through the spectrum to a vibrant hot pink. The wine can be made from any red grape from Pinotage to Pinot Noir and from Shiraz to Cabernet Sauvignon - there's no limit.

If you are unsure about your wine entering this competition, please don’t hesitate to email or telephone us (021 671 0751) to check. We’d be happy to help.

Wine stickers

There were many people wanting to know if there will be stickers for the winning wines.  The answer is a resounding YES.

Best Rosé Wine Label Design

We are very excited to announce that along with the judging of the wine itself, there will also be an award for the Best Rosé Wine Bottle Label.

This competition will be judged by a separate expert panel. No matter what category your wine is entered into, your label is automatically entered into the running for Best Rosé Wine Label Design.

There will be prizes for first, second and third place.

Please keep sending in your entries.

We have a great team putting this competition together and, we are here to help you in any way possible.

Cheers to rosé!

Invitation to Enter Rosé Rocks!

I write to you as Chair of the Judging Panel of South Africa's inaugural Rosé Wine Competition, and to invite you to enter your wines in this exciting new wine event.

Called 'Rosé Rocks!', this competition will reflect the fact that rosé is one of the fastest growing categories of wine in South Africa, and internationally.

In South Africa alone, sales have trebled between 2007 and 2014. This is exciting for consumers and winemakers alike, and there's no doubt about it, rosé wines have a certain sex appeal!

Winemakers are now producing beguiling examples of this wine, and consumers are increasingly appreciating its qualities as a wonderfully versatile wine to accompany food or to sip with friends.

Below you will find an entry form for your attention. All the relevant details are contained on it.

I look forward with anticipation to your involvement, and I am sure you will agree with me that this initiative will help promote the SA Rosé category.

Kind regards,

Allan Mullins
